Palestinian and Syrian refugees have become a symbol of human suffering in the twenty-first century. They have been subject to severe and bitter tragedies that now leave them in hunger and deprivation. Refugee communities suffer from the loss of shelter, food, water and medicine, and many succumb to the extreme cold winter resulting in the loss of lives. Children are most affected as their frail bodies struggle to fight the cold.
In 2016, approximately 12 million Syrians fled their homes, with 1.5 million settled in Lebanon. The actual figures of refugees who have settled in neighbouring countries is potentially much higher since the majority of refugees do not register in formal camps. Thousands of refugees reside in unofficial camps throughout the neighbouring countries such as Lebanon which are severely lacking in resources and infrastructure.
This program aims to provide relief by providing winter necessities as well as to increase the resilience of vulnerable groups including the poor and needy, elderly, orphans, widows and patients suffering from chronic diseases and those who have special needs.
