An-Nadaa Educational Foundation is the first government certified Muslim organization on the ground to make a change for the poor and needy Muslims in Nigeria, actively involved in launching and managing educational, da’wah and welfare projects across underprivileged communities in Nigeria.
What is QURBAN?
The word qurban literally means sacrificing or coming closer. It is a sacrifice offered following the footsteps of Prophet Ibrahim who had submitted to sacrifice his only son, Prophet Ismail for the sake of Allah. At the last minute, Ismail was replaced with a ram instead. This was a weighty test of conviction from Allah which Prophet Ibrahim passed with flying colors earning him the title of ‘Friend of Allah’.
Qurban is an act where the meat of the sacrifice reaches the underprivileged but what reaches Allah is our sincere submission, struggle and desire to attain Jannah by pleasing Him.
Leading companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ like Ibn Abbas, Ibn Masud and Ibn Umar narrate regarding the distribution of the qurban meat:
One third for the family.
One third for the community and friends.
One third for the poor and the needy.
Since 2017, our charity partner An-Nadaa has been making arrangements for performing your qurban in Nigeria and distributing the meat to the poor people in the community. Alhamdulillah this project has been bringing relief and happiness to these Muslim communities. The collections for it generally begin immediately after Ramadan.
There are many Muslim communities in and around Zaria that are very poor and facing dire circumstances. The lack of opportunities there leaves them little or no means of livelihood. Even if they do find work the salaries are astonishingly low (less than 5 USD a MONTH). For these people finding sustenance is a challenge in itself and with their non-existent to meager earnings a good meal (like meat) is a luxury most have rarely experienced.
Your sacrifice done for these people will bring them huge relief and great joy on this auspicious occasion of Eid. Last year (2018) An-Nadaa slaughtered 42 cows in Zaria and its surrounding villages providing relief to more than 1300 families.
Allah tells us in the Quran in Surah Insan:
And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive,
[Saying], “We feed you only for the countenance of Allah . We wish not from you reward or gratitude.
Indeed, We fear from our Lord a Day austere and distressful.”
So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness
Glimpses of Qurban and Meat Distribution in 2018
MAKE THEIR EID BETTER
This Eid al-Adha, with your help we aim to put a smile on the face of our poor and needy Muslims brothers and sisters. They should also get the chance to forget their sorrows and make the most out of Eid. Our charity partners, An-Nadaa will be arranging Udhiya or Qurbani of cows this Eid ul Adha.
The meat is not distributed randomly to anyone who comes asking for it. After careful research and proper verification a list is formed of those who are the most needy. The preparation of this list is done with a lot of care so that meat reaches those who are really deserving. Three methods are used by our on the ground charity partners, An-Nadaa for identifying them.
- Consulting the local Imams of the Masjid.
- Consulting School Administrations of these localities.
- Making our own research through our staff and volunteers who are themselves members of these poor communities.
The team on the ground will be fulfilling all Islamic principles and requirements as per proper Islamic teachings. The meat will be distributed to the most poor and deserving families in and around Zaria, Nigeria.
Cost of 1 Cow: US $630
A cow can be slaughtered on behalf of seven people. One part or a share in the cow amounts to $90. This amount also covers the costs of slaughtering, travelling to distribute the meat and skins and tags for the cows etc.
The companion, Jabir narrated, ‘In the year of Hudaibiyah (Reconciliation), we sacrificed a camel for each seven people along with Allah’s Messenger ﷺ, and also a cow for seven.’ [Muslim]
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“The best of deeds is making the believer happy, such as covering his ‘awrah, satisfying his hunger or meeting his need.”
By donating to this qurban campaign, our donors have the unique opportunity for being of the very first people to help their Muslim brothers and sisters directly on the ground in Nigeria. It’s not just about the quantity of the donation. The main aim is the quality of our donations and being a part of circulating good for the sake of Allah.
After meetings with Cinta Syria Malaysia, Global Sadaqah has partnered with them to raise funds to facilitate qurban meat to reach our needy Syrian refugee brothers and sisters this Eid.
This campaign supports partial funding and the partners on the ground will receive all the money raised regardless if it reaches the goal or not.
